Walmart and Alphabet Expand Drone Delivery Partnership
Walmart (WMT) and Alphabet (GOOGL) have forged a deal to enhance Walmart's drone delivery capabilities through Wing, a subsidiary of Google's parent company. The collaboration aims to serve over 40 million Americans, with plans to establish more than 270 drone delivery hubs by 2027. Initial service areas include Los Angeles, St. Louis, Cincinnati, and Miami, with additional locations expected soon.
Greg Cathey, Walmart's senior vice president of Digital Fulfillment Transformation, emphasized the strategic importance of drone delivery in meeting customer demands swiftly. Wing, which originated in Google's labs in 2012, became an independent Alphabet entity in 2018.
Walmart's stock has surged nearly 4% following the announcement, while Alphabet shares saw marginal gains. The retailer's strong performance in early 2025, including its upcoming inclusion in the Nasdaq-100 Index, underscores its growth trajectory.
